Common questions about junk car buyers
Short answers to what Chicago sellers ask most about junk car buyers: how offers are made, whether towing is free, what to do without a title, when you're paid, and how to compare one buyer with another. The answers about us are Junk Cars Buyers High Offer's own; the rest apply to any buyer.
Offers
How do you work out an offer?
From the car as you describe it: year, make, model, title status, whether it runs, what's damaged and what's missing. The form takes the first four; we ask about the rest when we call within 15 minutes.
Can you give me a price on the website?
No. A price that doesn't know whether your car runs or has its engine is a guess, and guesses are how offers end up changing at the curb. We give a number on the call.
Does "High Offer" mean you pay the most?
No. It's part of our name. We don't claim to pay more than every other buyer, and we don't match or beat quotes. We give a straight number and tell you how to compare it. Getting a second offer explains how.
Who pays the most for junk cars?
It depends on the car. Running cars often fetch more privately, wrecks with good parts from parts buyers, stripped shells from scrap yards. Who pays the most for junk cars goes through it.
Towing and pickup
Is towing free?
Yes. Nothing is taken off the offer for the tow.
How soon can you pick up?
Same-day pickup is often possible. We'll tell you when we call.
Where do you pick up?
Chicago, the Cook, DuPage and Will County suburbs (Joliet and Aurora included), and Northwest Indiana as far as Gary. The Northwest Side pages have neighbourhood pickup notes.
What hours do you keep?
Six in the morning to nine at night, seven days a week, Chicago time.
I have two or three junk cars. One visit?
Yes. One pickup can take more than one car; list them all when we call.
The car is at a repair shop or in an apartment or HOA lot. Is that a problem?
No, those pickups are fine. Sort out access with the shop or the lot first, and get permission where the lot needs it.
Do you take trucks, vans, SUVs and burned or flooded cars?
Yes. Any vehicle in any condition: fire-damaged, flooded, wrecked, stripped or dead.
My car doesn't run. Can you still take it?
Yes. Plenty of junk cars don't run; that's why we tow. Mention whether it still rolls and where it sits.
Titles and paperwork
Can I sell a junk car without a title?
No title? We can still help. Say which papers you do have: a bill of sale, the registration, an insurance card. Illinois law, not us, decides which of those can stand in for a title on a scrap sale, and we'll tell you where you stand when we call.
Do you buy salvage title cars?
Yes, repaired or not. Selling a salvage title car covers what to tell a buyer and how Illinois treats salvage vehicles.
When should I sign the title?
When you're paid. With us that happens at the same meeting, at pickup. Never sign a title over, or leave the buyer's name blank, before you have the money. More in junk car buyer red flags.
Payment
When do I get paid, and how?
At pickup, when the car is collected. Cash works, and so do app transfers: Zelle, Cash App or another digital payment.
Does your offer expire?
No. The number we give you holds with no time limit, which is the point if you're comparing buyers.
What if a buyer offers to pay later?
Then the car leaves before the money arrives, and you're trusting a stranger with both. Ask when and how you'll be paid before you book any tow.
Comparing buyers
How do I compare junk car quotes fairly?
Give every buyer identical details, ask each the same five questions, and compare what you'd actually receive after fees. How to compare junk car quotes has the method.
Should I sell to a junkyard, a scrap yard or a junk car buyer?
It depends on how much of the car is left. Junkyard vs scrap yard vs junk car buyer compares the three.
Is my car worth more for parts?
If something valuable on it still works and the rest isn't worth fixing, possibly. See selling a car for parts before you pull anything off it.
