Selling a junk car in Portage Park
Portage Park is bungalow-belt Chicago: streets of bungalows and two-flats between Jefferson Park and Forest Glen to the north, Irving Park to the east, Belmont Cragin to the south, and Dunning and Harwood Heights to the west. Its middle is Six Corners, where Irving Park Road, Cicero Avenue and Milwaukee Avenue cross, and a second shopping strip runs around Belmont and Central.
Those bungalow lots matter for a junk car. If yours stopped running a few winters ago, it may well be in a garage off the alley, nose-in, behind a door that hasn’t opened fully in a while. That’s a normal pickup. It just needs describing properly before the truck comes.
The other Portage Park landmarks you might give us as a reference point: the Portage Theater and the restored Patio Theater, the park itself with its field house and big public pool, the Blue Line’s Montrose station in the Kennedy median on the neighbourhood’s northeast edge, and the Metra stop at Mayfair.
Pickup notes for Portage Park
A few things make the day go smoothly:
- Near Six Corners, give us a side street. The six-way crossing at Irving Park, Cicero and Milwaukee is no place to load a car. If the car is on or near one of those three, name the nearest residential cross street.
- Alley garage? Tell us three things. Does the car roll? Is it facing in or out? Does the door open all the way? A car that rolls and faces out is a quick job; one that’s seized and facing the back wall needs the right truck.
- On Belmont or Central? Same idea as Six Corners: tell us the closest quiet street.
- Keep it off the street if it’s stripped. The Chicago City Clerk lists junk vehicles among the vehicles that can’t park on residential or business streets, so a car without wheels or plates is better left in the garage or on the parking pad until pickup.
Have your title ready when the driver arrives, or whichever papers we confirmed on the call. You’re paid when the car is collected.
Comparing offers in Portage Park
If you’ve already had a number from someone else, don’t just take the higher one. Check what each one leaves you with after any tow fee, and when each one actually pays. Send us exactly the details you gave them and get a second offer to lay beside it.
The method is simple and it’s written out in full in how to compare junk car quotes: same details to every buyer, the same five questions to each, then compare the amount you’d actually be handed.
Living near the Portage Park edges? We cover the other Northwest Side neighbourhoods too, and the suburbs just west, including Harwood Heights and Norridge.
Quick answers
Can you pick up in Portage Park today?
Often, yes. Same-day pickup is often possible; we'll tell you when we call with the offer.
The car is in my garage off the alley. Is that a problem?
Tell us when you send the form or on the call: whether the car rolls, whether it's facing in or out, and whether the garage door opens all the way. The driver needs that before they set out.
No title? Can you still buy my car in Portage Park?
We can still help. Say which papers you do have: a bill of sale, the registration, an insurance card. Illinois law, not us, decides which of those can stand in for a title on a scrap sale, and we'll tell you where you stand when we call.
